"Works" performance for the local rider |
When it comes to your suspension, the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" only leads to a continual performance degradation. Huge shear forces in the shock, and the oil contamination that occurs as a result of normal internal wear, lead to the breakdown of your suspension fluids, which are a critical factor in the overall performance of your suspension. Non-Twin Chamber Forks (most typical bikes) also suffer from having their compression damping circuit located at the bottom of the fork, where the sludge from contaminated oil settles, further reducing the performance of your suspension. To keep your suspension working as designed, you must replace the fluid periodically. Casual riders can probably get by with annual service, where serious racer-types will want to service the oil more frequently. A service interval of 20-hrs (riding time) will help prevent viscosity breakdown and prevent the buildup of sludge in your forks. Revalve customers also qualify to receive a follow-on Revalve at a reduced rate with each subsequent oil change, thereby further refining your suspension action and giving you another reason to keep that oil fresh.
